In 1967 he was awarded the Neiman Marcus Award. The 1970s saw Valentino spending most of his time in New York designing for socialites and artists, such as Andy Warhol. In the 1990s, Valentino sold his company for $300 million to an Italian conglomerate. In 2007, Valentino announced his retirement, to the dismay of his numerous fans.
